When I do a research project, I like to be as efficient as possible. It is all about making my searching easier. I need to find the best information for my clients with out blowing my “time” budget.
The biggest issue I have with any research project is that you don’t know what you will find until you click on the resource your Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Sure, there might be some interesting information in the snippet. But these days most snippets are designed (written) to ensure maximum click-age ( Yes, that is a popper term 😉 ).
Sometimes there is no snippet at all (boy… is that bothersome). Regardless of the quality of the snippet, when researching you will be doing a lot of clicking. It also doesn’t help that most search engines will only display 10 results on a page.
Here is something the SEO people wont tell you. The really good stuff isn’t always on the 1st page. Sometimes you have to go the 2nd page.
There is a page 2 on Google?
Yes, yes there is.
However it would seem that approximately only 10% of people who search online go past page 1.
It has been my experience that the best information can be found beyond search result number 10. Unfortunately, this requires more clicking and lost seconds wait for a new page to load.
Who’s got time for that? Not this little researcher, that’s for sure.
So, here is my tip for you. Change the number of results per page.
Scrolling down 100 results or more is so much more easier than clicking on 10 pages.
Ok, so how do you change the search engine to do this?
Well I will show you for the two search engines I use the most.
Searching easier with Google
Step 1: Select Settings
Step 2: Select Search Settings.
Step 3: Choose the number of search results you would prefer. I prefer to have 100 results per page. But the choice is up to you.
